Barcelona fell to their first defeat of the season against Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday night at Montjuic, just the second home game with more than 6,000 fans this season. While the inquest began at the final whistle, one impassioned Barcelona fan was far more concerned about the atmosphere rather than the team.
The Catalan giants welcomed the European champions with prices for the home fans into the hundreds, and placid atmosphere for the blockbuster clash. PSG’s away section was the far more raucous of the two supports, and had no counterpart; it is ten months since Barcelona’s board banned the groups that made up the singing section due to a dispute over a UEFA fine. The fine was handed to Barcelona following a Nazi banner shown during an away game at AS Monaco.

‘It’s completely unacceptable’ – impassioned Barcelona fan
As TV3 interviewed fans outside of the Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys, one Barcelona supporter took to the microphone to express their frustration at the lack of home support.
“Please, I need to say it, and send a message to Mr. Joan Laporta. Please, it’s unacceptable that they come and have 10,000 supporters, regardless of which team it is, and that we hear them more during the entire game than 40,000 Barcelona supporters.”

“They need to work out a solution, because we need someone to make a bit of noise at the stadium. Because this is completely unacceptable. It’s embarassing.”
‘Wave your scarfs’ Barcelona fans
Days before, as Barcelona returned to Montjuic for the first time against Real Sociedad, one fan complained of the atmosphere at Montjuic. ‘Everything is a mess’ they then captioned a video of an employee held up a sign asking fans to ‘wave their scarfs’ to a sped up version of a Barcelona chant doubled with extra bass.

Some players have also commented on the lack of the singing section, with Raphinha previously offering to pay the UEFA fine to resolve the matter. However the club have refused, promising a reformed singing section at the renovated Camp Nou. Others suspect that the ban is more to do with the singing section expressing discontent with Laporta last season.
