WATCH: Fermin Lopez unleashed, doubles lead over Olympiakos
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Barcelona look to be heading into the half-time break against Olympiakos with a comfortable lead in the Champions League, courtesy of Fermin Lopez. Making his first start from injury, the Spain international is giving boss Hansi Flick reasons to put him in the starting XI for El Clasico.

The Blaugrana took an early against the Greek giants, with Fermin Lopez capitalising on Lamine Yamal’s effort to round the goalkeeper after just seven minutes. Barcelona were looking good for the opening stages, but were forced back by Olympiakos for a period, creating headaches with their press. Yet Lopez would make life far more comfortable for the home side just as the break turned the corner.

Fermin Lopez doubles Barcelona’s lead with fine effort

The attacking midfielder was let loose again by the Olympiakos defence after a turnover caused by Pedri. The ball found its way to 17-year-old Dro Fernandez, who would notch his first assist, as he rolled the ball into the path of Lopez in space. Cutting in from close range, Lopez finished with precision.

Control in the second half for Barcelona?

Barcelona will hope to close the game out quickly and without incident in the second half, as the Clasico pulls firmly into sight. Given their recent defensive issues, and some of Olympiakos’ forays forward though, Hansi Flick can ill-afford to see his side lose focus. While they have had periods of control, there was little suggestion that Olympiakos were out of the game, at the very least until Lopez’s second.

Flick will want to see his side monopolise more of the ball in the second half, knowing that the spaces will open up as Jose Luis Mendilibar seeks a way back into the match for his side. The likes of Lopez and Lamine Yamal are unlikely to complete the game too, as they continue their comebacks from injury.
