Who are the best players in La Liga right now?

We’re in May already and the 2024/25 season of the Spanish top flight is almost over. We are going to take a look at the best players in LaLiga right now, featuring many of the stars who have lit up this campaign.

L15 (Last 15 match average) scores according to Sorare’s advanced scoring matrix are used to rank the players. These take into account decisive actions such as goals, assists, last man tackles and clean sheets (for keepers), as well as a whole range of smaller actions such as blocks, clearances, duels won, successful passes, shots on target and chances missed.

To feature in our rankings, players must have appeared in at least eight of their last 15 available fixtures which includes LaLiga, as well as most internationals and all European club matches.

10. Arda Guler, Real Madrid – 61.1

It has been a largely frustrating season for Arda Guler, with the Turkish international restricted to just 14 starts in all competitions for Real Madrid. He struggled in the opening months of the campaign, but we’ve witnessed a real return to form from the 20-year-old in recent weeks.

He impressed off the bench in the Copa del Rey final against Barcelona, and scored a lovely goal as Real Madrid beat Celta Vigo 3-2 last time out. With Rodrygo out of form, Guler now looks like he could be set for a run in the team over the final weeks of the season, and heading into the FIFA Club World Cup.

9. Yuri, Athletic Club – 61.4

While full-backs rarely make the headlines, let alone ones in their mid 30s, Yuri Berchiche is still posting really impressive numbers for Athletic Club and he ranks among the 10 best players in LaLiga right now according to their fantasy football scores.

Operating from left-back, Yuri has been one of Athletic’s best players this season, and he’s made 10 starts in the Europa League during the Basque club’s run to the semi-finals.

8. Marcos Llorente, Atletico Madrid – 61.9

Another of LaLiga’s standout full-backs this season has been Marcos Llorente. The Atletico Madrid man has been his team’s most consistent performer, offering real energy and quality on the right flank.

While to some extent, Llorente remains a victim of his own versatility, it feels as though he has enjoyed life in the right-back position this season, with license to get forward, particularly in the Champions League where he registered two goals and four assists in eight appearances.

7. Lamine Yamal, Barcelona – 62.7

It has been a whirlwind rise for Lamine Yamal who was only 16 at the start of Euro 2024, a championship which he lit up with some brilliant individual moments for a victorious Spain side.

In the 2024/25 campaign, the young winger has only gone from strength to strength. He is showing more composure in front of goal, and has added a number of special strikes to his growing collection, including a dazzling solo goal against Inter Milan in the Champions League semi-final first leg. The teenager also leads LaLiga for assists with 12 in 31 appearances.

6. Antony, Real Betis – 63.2

One of the signings of this January window in Spain, Antony has found a new lease of life in Seville since swapping Manchester United for Real Betis. He has helped spark a revival in the fortunes of Manuel Pellegrini’s side, with some exceptional displays on the right wing.

Antony has worked well with Betis talisman Isco, and he scored a seventh goal for his new club to seal a vital 2-1 victory at Espanyol at the weekend. Betis are now in real contention to qualify for the Champions League, but even that may not be enough for them to finance a package to keep their loan star for another season.

5. Joan Garcia, Espanyol – 64.3

Another player who may find himself in demand this summer is Joan Garcia. The 24-year-old is enjoying his first season as a regular top-flight starter and he has shown just why he has always been so highly rated at the RCDE Stadium.

Garcia has been on Espanyol’s books since his early teens, but he has only been their first-choice keeper since the second half of last season when he was trusted with the gloves ahead of Fernando Pacheco. He helped his team to promotion and has been a key factor in Espanyol’s successful return to LaLiga under Manolo.

4. Iñigo Martinez, Barcelona – 66.5

Iñigo Martinez would have seemed an unlikely candidate for any LaLiga best players list at the beginning of the campaign, but the Barcelona defender has excelled in partnership with youngster Pau Cubarsi at the heart of the Catalan team’s defence.

While injuries to the likes of Ronald Araujo and Andreas Christensen have helped serve up this opportunity, it’s one that Martinez has taken with open arms and he stands a good chance of fighting his way back into international contention, at a stage in his career when it looked like his days with La Roja were over.

3. Pedri, Barcelona – 67.5

Pedri has been another of Barcelona’s best players this season, and certainly the standout midfielder for Hansi Flick’s team. It feels like the Tenerife-born player has been around forever, but he’s still only 22 and he is really living up to all that early promise this term.

While a lack of goals and assists mean he is perhaps under-appreciated by those who don’t watch Barca regularly, Pedri is so often the player who makes things tick for the Catalan giants in the middle of the park. He has tended to operate in a slightly deeper role this season for his club, typically alongside Frenkie de Jong or Marc Casado in a double pivot.

2. Raphinha, Barcelona – 70.0

On the opposite flank to Lamine Yamal, Raphinha is also tearing things up for Barcelona right now. The Brazilian was linked with a move away last summer as the Catalan giants pursued Nico Williams, but as it turns out, the former Leeds man has been the perfect fit for Flick’s higher energy approach.

Raphinha is in the form of his life right now, with his numbers for this season exceeding anything he has produced in his career until this point. The 28-year-old has already passed 30 goals in all competitions, while he has registered a ridiculous 20 goal contributions (12 goals and eight assists) in 13 appearances in the Champions League this term.

1. Isco, Real Betis – 70.3

A frustrated spectator in the first half of the season due to injury, Isco has returned to bolster Betis and he is thriving again under Pellegrini’s guidance, with the former Real Madrid man arguably the best player in LaLiga in 2025 so far.

Isco’s career looked as good as over only 18 months ago when he was looking for a new club following the mutual termination of his Sevilla contract, just the latest chapter in a sorry downward spiral from his peak years at the Bernabeu.

The 33-year-old has really silenced his critics since moving to the Benito Villamarin though, and he’s playing some of the best football in his career right now, with eight goals and six assists in 18 LaLiga appearances this term, while he has also impressed in the Conference League.

Again, only players who have appeared in at least 50% of their available matches over the last 15 games were considered. 

It’s testament to their struggles right now that only one Real Madrid player makes the top 10 in our rundown of LaLiga’s best players. Fede Valverde, Jude Bellingham and Luka Modric all feature between 11th and 20th though.

They’re among a strong cast of LaLiga midfielders this season, with João Cardoso of Betis, and Valencia’s Enzo Barrenechea also featuring in the top 20 overall.

Espanyol full-back Omar El Hilali has been one of the season’s standout young players, while at the other end of the age scale, Celta Vigo defender Marcos Alonso also features in the top 20 thanks to a solid run of form for the 34-year-old at Balaidos.
