‘You’ve made a huge fuss over it’ – Real Madrid star hits back at press over Vinicius Junior coverage – Football España

Real Madrid defender Dean Huijsen has criticised the press in Spain for their coverage of the drama surrounding Vinicius Junior. The Brazilian shouted that he would be leaving the club as he was taken off during El Clasico against Barcelona, but Huijsen feels that the incident was overblown.

It has dominated the headlines in the Spanish capital over the last 10 days, but outwardly at least, manager Xabi Alonso and Vinicius appear to have made peace. The latter apologised publicly and privately, but not to Alonso – at least the Basque manager refused to confirm as much. However Alonso has said that the incident has been resolved.

Huijsen gave his opinion on it from Liverpool ahead of  their Champions League clash.

“The press writes a lot, and you’ve made a huge fuss over something that wasn’t such a big deal. He apologised, which I think is fair. These things happen in football.”

Huijsen on adaptation to life at Real Madrid

The 20-year-old was an early hit at the Bernabeu, impressing with his calm on the ball, and proactive defending. Nevertheless, he has been questioned more of late, particularly after a tricky derby against Real Madrid. Huijsen feels he is settling in well to life at Real Madrid.

“It’s a dream come true. I wanted to play for the best team in the world. I think I fit well with Xabi’s vision and the club’s plan. I’m very happy to be here.”

“Mentally I’m very well, I’m very happy, it’s my dream and I hope to bring a lot of joy to the Madrid fans.”

‘I learned to defend well in Italy’ – Huijsen

That quality on the ball has been something that Real Madrid struggled with last season, often coming undone against high pressure.

“I think I’m good at bringing the ball out, I try to help the team wherever I can. Xabi asks that of me too, and more, of course. I’m happy.”

Huijsen grew up as a Real Madrid fan, originally, coming through the academy at hometown club Malaga. Despite receiving an offer from Real Madrid, Huijsen decided to join Juventus, and later AS Roma on loan.

“In Italy I went to learn how to defend well, and I learned a lot. I’m very grateful to Juventus and Roma. It was their decision to let me go, but I’m very grateful. And I had a great time there.”
